Studies have shown that athletes who don’t wear mouthguards can be up to 60 times more likely to suffer dental injuries, and while the risks may be obvious in contact sports such as boxing or football, they can also be present in non contact activities such as gymnastics or horse riding. A custom fitting mouthguard offers the greatest level of protection, should be comfortable to wear, and will not dig in or restrict breathing or speech.
Innovative Dental can supply well-fitting mouthguards that are custom designed for your chosen sport. We’ll simply take an impression of your teeth which is used by our dental laboratory to fabricate your mouthguard, following Dr Eshak’s instructions. Looking after your mouthguard couldn’t be easier, as all you need to do is rinse it thoroughly after each use, and brush gently with a little toothpaste. Store it in a ventilated container away from direct heat as this could distort it, and check regularly for any signs of wear and tear. Most mouthguards should last for quite a while, but growing children may need to have theirs regularly checked and replaced to accommodate erupting adult teeth and jaw growth.
